One thing that I detest during fall and winter is DRY SKIN! Every year I try my hardest to avoid dry skin because it causes my makeup to separate and look crackly. I’ve always used a sunscreen to moisturize my face before applying my makeup but this autumn I think I found my holy grail when it’s comes to makeup separation. I finally invested the time to find a hydrating primer and CoverFX has answered my prayers. After I apply my sunscreen, I apply my Calming Primer. I like this primer because it’s great for sensitive skin. If you’re like me, I suffer from hives and mild eczema. My sensitive skin is one of the main reasons why my makeup separates and this primer gets rid of my redness while calming my skin.
Lastly, when I finish my entire makeup routine, I love to spray the CoverFX Mattifying Setting Spray. I used to think setting sprays were a hoax but after a trial, I realized they actually get the job done. It keeps my makeup matte and together. I love a matte look because I don’t like looking shiny. In the summer, it’s cool to have a little shine to enhance your glow but in the winter I prefer my makeup to be all the way matte. If you guys and gals have any other winter makeup routines that you do, don’t be afraid to comment on this post.

Earlier this year, I made a BIG change in my life, I went VEGETARIAN! I come from a big Jamaican family and it was hard for me to give up jerk chicken, oxtail, and chicken foot soup ( I know it sounds weird but it’s sooo yummy!). A majority of people usually transition into being vegetarian by gradually eliminating red meat, chicken and fish, but my journey was quite different. I have been allergic to seafood for a majority of my life so that was easy but eliminating meats was a whole other story.
In March, I traveled to Dakar, Senegal, which was an incredible experience (CLICK HERE to watch my vlog). A majority of the food I ate was meat and during my two week stay, my body was not responding well to it at all. Don’t get me wrong, it tasted wonderful but I rather have a clean and clear digestive system. After longs nights of sitting on the toilet, I decided it was time to change the way I eat. Since June 2017, I have not had one slab of meat and it’s been one of the greatest decision I’ve made.
I like to call myself a vegetarian with vegan tendencies. I say that because I only drink almond or cashew milk and I don’t eat eggs. Sometimes I have my dairy days by releasing my stress with a big bowl of ice cream, but I try to be a good girl. One thing I do use that is 100% vegan is my Natural Finish Foundation from CoverFX. I guess since I was changing what goes into my body, I wanted to change what goes on it as well. First, I fell in love with the packaging. It’s large enough to last me a long time but it’s small enough for me to carry on the airplane. Second, the foundation keep my skin hydrated. I’ve tried a lot of foundations in the past and they dried out my skin. Lastly, it is a FULL coverage foundation. I know a lot of companies say full coverage and they’re not, but CoverFX did not lead me a stray. The foundation doesn’t just help cover my blemishes, but it heals them. If you’re looking for a change in your makeup, I suggest taking the first step with CoverFX.

Ever since I was 13, I’ve always had a problem with acne. It is something that I feel self conscious about, even till this day as a 22 year old. When I was in my freshman year of college, my mother took me to an amazing Beverly Hills dermatologist by the name of Dr. Susan Evans. She was able to get rid of my acne but I was still suffering from small dark marks and hyperpigmentation. For those of you who don’t know what hyperpigmentation is, it is ” a common, usually harmless condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin” (http://www.aocd.org). Now that I am a young adult, it’s time to say goodbye to those acne days FOR GOOD and hello to clear skin.
Many people use chemical peels or other skin brightens to get rid of their dark marks, but I tried it before and I felt it was too harsh for my sensitive skin. I also started to realize that my skin was getting lighter. When I looked in the mirror, I felt as if my skin looked like I was bleaching it instead of brightening it. I was recently in Morocco and I had a minor break out. Some pimples left some scars and I began to freak out. I thank God that I had my True Botancials skin care products with me because it made a drastic change in my skin.
My night routine that helped with the scarring, consisted of the hydrating cleanser, toner, cellular repair serum, and the vitamin C booster. The hydrating cleanser was able to fight any recurring acne and the cellular repair serum mixed with the vitamin C booster was able to battle the scars and minor marks. The cellular repair serum is ” a true force of nature that strengthens the barrier function in aging skin while fighting adult acne. “(True Botanicals). The vitamin C booster ” stimulates collagen production, firms and repairs skin, fights wrinkles, evens skin tone, brightens aging skin.” (True Botanicals). Lastly, at the end of my routine I used the toner to give my skin an even complexion. I highly recommend this routine if you are looking for products that are natural. I am trying to stay away from using too many chemicals on my face or body, so I feel that True Botanicals is a great substitute.

Finding the proper person to install your lash extensions and do your eyebrows can be very challenging. When women get their eyebrows and lashes done, it must be PERFECT! There is no room for error and for someone like me who is very particular about the thickness of my eyebrows, I don’t let any random person lay their hands on me. I moved to New York in October and I haven’t found the right person to shape up my eyebrows and install perfect lashes, until NOW! Last week I had the pleasure of taking the train to West Hempstead, Long Island (30 mins from NYC), and getting my lashes and eyebrows done by the one and only May, owner of Luxurious Lashes.
When I arrived in West Hempstead, May was so kind enough to pick me up from the train station (it was a SUPER snowy day) to escort me to her salon. I truly was shocked and thankful at her kind gesture. I was greeted into the salon by one of her assistants, who took my coat and gave me the most delicious cup of tea ever! May made sure that I was comfortable and relaxed because getting your lashes done is very tedious and time consuming. May made sure she informed me about having lash extensions, prior to the installation, which I really appreciated. She gave me 3 tips to know when having individual lashes:
3 TIPS TO KNOW WHEN HAVING INDIVIDUAL LASHES:
- Make sure that your aesthetician knows how to apply the style of lashes that will enhance your eye shape.
- When you wear eye makeup with your lashes, make sure that you remove the makeup with a WATER BASE makeup remover
- Make sure to brush your lashes everyday with a spoolie brush so they don’t get tangled. (May will give you a free spoolie brush after your appointment)
Example of a spoolie brush:
After an hour and half, my lashes were done and they looked FLAWLESS! I was almost in tears because May really knew how to create a lash structure that enhanced my eye shape. I was truly over joyed and I felt beautiful. The best thing about May and Luxurious Lashes is that she and her team know how to make you feel comfortable and treat you feel like a QUEEN. May is a licensed aesthetician, so she was able to wax my eyebrows as well. She cleaned up my eyebrows so that they stayed thick and didn’t look sparse. If you want more than your lashes and eyebrows done, Luxurious Lashes is the perfect place because they also do nails, micro blading, waxing, spray tanning, and makeup. Luxurious Lashes is your ONE STOP SHOP! You can get everything done at one place and still save time.

Here are my results that I was VERY satisfied with
As the month of March comes to an end, also known as, Women’s History Month, or what I like to say, Women’s HERstory Month, I must acknowledge my hardworking women and girls for always staying on top of their grind. In the words of Queen Bey, ” I Dream it. I work hard. I grind ’til I own it” and that is exactly what women have been doing and will continue to do. I always knew my entire life I was going to be my own boss and it’s so refreshing to see other women and girls making the rules instead of following them. Being a boss babe doesn’t mean you’re a money hungry B&t%h, it means you are breaking the societal norm of being domesticated and paving the way for a new normal. It can sometimes be threatening to other women and men seeing a woman or girl in power, but to me being brilliant, beautiful, and a boss is the real deal. When rappers like Drake start rapping about boss ladies throwing their men a prenup, you know times have changed. Even though women are picking up their paychecks and hiring a manny (a male nanny, lol!), women and girls still have to grind a little harder than a man.
1. WHEN WOMEN EMBRACE EACH OTHER, INCREDIBLE THINGS HAPPEN
- As women, we shouldn’t feel that we need to compete with each other or search for satisfaction from a man. When women are able to put drama aside and realize that fighting for something has a greater impact than fighting each other, bonds and businesses begin to form.
2. DISCIPLINE, DISCIPLINE, DISCIPLINE
- Every girl has been told “act like a lady” or ” be more lady-like”, because their legs weren’t crossed or they were”acting like a boy”. When women start making it to big league businesses that are run by established white men, women who are dominating will most likely be told to stay in her lane or once again “act like a lady”. Even as emotional creatures, women still have the ability to fight back with self-discipline. People are always going to tell women what they can’t do, that’s why women are able to show what they can do.
3. NO MEANS YES
- Often times women are told the word, NO, because of the stereotypes that are attached to being a woman. Women cannot accept “NO” as an answer. No only means work harder and prove them wrong.
4. I AM A WOMEN/GIRL and I AM….. Black,Latina, Muslim, etc.
- Being a girl is hard, but when being a Black girl, Latina girl, Muslim girl, or whatever you are, things can be harder. Even though race and gender shouldn’t matter, it does, and it can have an affect on finances, status, and businesses. As women of all races and backgrounds, we must unite each other and uplift the diversity of all women. Let’s get in formation!
5. DON’T PLAY, just SLAYYYYYYYYYYYY!
- For women and girls, the grind never stops, and that is okay because women are going to work hard and grind ’til they own it. More women are becoming CEO’s, entrepreneurs, doctors, and accountants, proving that women do have control over their own lives and fortune 500 companies. Women didn’t come to play, they came to SLAY!
